Intermediate filaments

Intermediate filaments are a part of the cytoskeleton, which extends all round the cytoplasm and inner nuclear membrane. Intermediate filaments are made from a large group of proteins which are arranged into five classes. Intermediate filaments attaches to desmosomes (intercellular junctions of epithelia and cardiac muscle) to resist mechanical stress exerted on the cell.
