CYLINDERS

Carter wonders, "What if the bases are circular?" Copy the

cylinder at right onto your paper. Discuss with your team

how to find its surface area and volume if the radius of the

base is 5 units and the height of the cylinder is 8 units.

Respuesta :

Given:

The radius of the cylinder is 5 units.

The height of the cylinder is 8 units.

We need to determine the surface area and the volume of the cylinder.

Surface area of the cylinder:

The surface area of the cylinder can be determined using the formula,

[tex]S=2 \pi r(r+h)[/tex]

Substituting r = 5 and h = 8 in the above formula, we get;

[tex]S=2(3.14)(5)(5+8)[/tex]

[tex]S=2(3.14)(5)(13)[/tex]

[tex]S=408.2[/tex]

Thus, the surface area of the cylinder is 408.2 square units.

Volume of the cylinder:

The volume of the cylinder can be determined using the formula,

[tex]V=\pi r^2 h[/tex]

Substituting r = 5 and h = 8 in the above formula, we get;

[tex]V=(3.14)(5)^2(8)[/tex]

[tex]V=(3.14)(25)(8)[/tex]

[tex]V=628[/tex]

Thus, the volume of the cylinder is 628 cubic units.
