During the selection of new cabinet members, the president together with the senate nominate the candidates through the following steps:

  • The president submits a list of his appointees for the respective positions to the senate in writing.
  • Each appointee is then referred to a state department committee of relevance to their aspired position.
  • Committee hearings and submissions to the senate occur in preparation for the senate hearing.
  • The list of successful cabinet nominees is submitted to the white house for the congressional record.

Cabinet meetings are organized in order for the cabinet to reach a consensus on the decisions made by the cabinet. Each member has to attend the cabinet sitting and take equal responsibility for the decisions made by the cabinet.

The presidential cabinet includes the secretary of state, the vice president, and the heads of the 15 state departments, who meet the president on a regular basis.

The cabinet meets the president when he/she has specified. There is no set time period for formal cabinet meetings with the president.
